A set of 4 hand-painted breakfast bowl from Caldas da Rainha — a single trailing vine in pale blue-green carrying dark pointed leaves around the full circumference, the kind of mark that looks effortless and takes a steady artist hand to create. The trailing vine is one of the oldest marks in ceramic history. Brought by through the Moorish tradition into the workshops of Portugal, where the painters simplified it to its essential elements and evolved into the modern version you see today. Fruit on a kitchen counter, soup on a cold evening, breakfast every morning without exception, this fine European Earthenware will get you from day to night in style.

Inspiration
The vine is Moorish in origin, carried into the workshops of Caldas da Rainha through the trade routes of the Mediterranean and simplified over centuries to its most essential elements — a line, a leaf, the pause between them — by painters who understood that restraint is not the absence of skill but its highest expression. On this bowl, in pale blue-green against a cream ground, just simply elevates. Remember, these items are hand painted and made, so each will come with its own unique patina, no two pieces are the same, which is always a sign of a work of art.
Collectors Questions

Q: Are the cereal bowls just for cereal?

A: They're shaped for daily use well beyond cereal — yoghurt and fruit, a small salad, or a snack all work equally well. It's usually the piece that sees the most regular use of any in the collection.

Q: How should I wash them to protect the glaze with daily use?

A: A low-temperature or eco dishwasher cycle (≤30–40°C) with a mild detergent is fine occasionally, with heated drying switched off. Because cereal bowls tend to be washed most frequently of any piece, hand-washing is the habit most worth adopting here if you want the glaze to hold its colour for years.

Q: Can I buy the cereal bowl on its own, without the full dinner set?

A: Yes, each piece is available as a set of 4. Many collectors start with the cereal bowl for breakfast and build out to the dinner plate and side plate over time.

Q: Will the pattern or colour fade with the frequency of washing a breakfast bowl gets?

A: Hand-painted glaze ages gracefully rather than fading the way a printed pattern would. Gentle care — low heat, mild detergent, no heated drying — is what keeps it looking rich rather than any need to use it less.

Q: Is the cereal bowl a practical everyday gift, even as a single piece?

A: Very much so — a single well-made bowl is a genuinely useful, low-pressure gift, and it's often how people are introduced to a collection before deciding to collect the rest of it.
