Fine European Earthernware

Candlelight does something particular to hand-painted porcelain — the glaze catches it differently at every angle, and the flowers, which are generous in daylight, become something quieter and more considered after dark.
JJ places two together at the close table, never symmetrically. The garland connects them without matching them

Inspiration
A porcelain candleholder hand-painted in Caldas da Rainha — the familiar garland of pink and blue blooms circling the base, made to hold a single flame.
Collectors Questions

Q: How do I remove wax from a candleholder without damaging it?

A: The easiest method: place the candleholder in the freezer for 20–30 minutes. The wax will shrink and lift cleanly away from the surface with a fingernail or wooden skewer — no scraping or soaking required. For any residue, a cloth with a little olive oil loosens wax from painted or glazed surfaces without scratching. Never use abrasive cleaners on hand-painted pieces.

Q: Is the candle holder meant to be used on the table with the tableware, or displayed separately?

A: It's designed to sit directly on the table alongside the plates and bowls from the same collection - placed among the tableware, it carries the pattern through to the centrepiece so the table reads as one considered composition.

Q: How should the candle holder be cleaned, given it's not washed the way plates are?

A: Since it isn't used for food, a soft, damp cloth is usually all it needs day-to-day. If it does need a fuller wash, follow the same gentle approach as the rest of the collection — low heat, mild detergent, no heated drying, hand-washing preferred.

Q: Does the candle holder match the glaze and pattern of the plates in the same collection?

A: Yes — it's drawn from the same glaze and design as the rest of its collection, so it's made to sit naturally alongside the dinner plates, side plates, and bowls rather than as a separate decorative object.

Q: Is the candle holder a good gift on its own?

A: Yes — it's a lovely, self-contained gift for someone who already collects the range, or as a smaller, more affordable way to introduce someone to a collection before they commit to the full table setting.
