Collectors Questions

Q: Is the artwork an original, a limited edition print, or an open edition?

A: Each piece on our site states this clearly — original, limited edition, or open edition print. Limited editions are numbered and signed; once the edition is sold out, it is not reprinted. Originals are singular objects. Open edition prints are available continuously and are the most accessible entry point for a collector. We are transparent about the status of every piece because it matters to the value and meaning of what you are buying.

Q: Is artwork a suitable gift?

A: The most personal of gifts, and the one most likely to be on a wall twenty years from now. Josephine's collection is rooted in the history of decorative arts — each piece has a story and a provenance that make it more than decoration. For a significant birthday, a housewarming, or a wedding, an artwork is a gift that distinguishes itself. We offer gift wrapping and can include a handwritten note

Q: How do I protect artwork from fading or damage?

A: Direct sunlight is the primary enemy of any artwork — UV bleaches pigment over time, even in quality prints. Hang away from windows that receive sustained direct light, or invest in UV-filtering glazing for framed pieces. Humidity is the second concern: bathrooms and kitchens are not ideal for paper-based prints. A consistent, moderate room temperature and low humidity is all that quality artwork needs.

Q: Where should I hang artwork in my home?

A: At eye level when standing — roughly 145–150cm from the floor to the centre of the piece — is the museum standard, and it is right for most rooms. Above a sofa, the artwork should sit 15–20cm above the back of the sofa and be roughly two-thirds the width of the sofa. Above a bed, the same principle applies. In a hallway, the entry to a home benefits from something bold and unexpected — it is the first and last thing you and your guests see.
