The garland continues into the bowl — pink and blue blooms running the rim, hand-painted in Caldas da Rainha by the same hands that have been watching Portuguese wildflowers since 1884.
There is something quietly radical about a bowl this considered used for breakfast. The artisans did not design it for an occasion — they designed it for every morning, which is a harder brief, but we think they captured it with panache
JJ uses this set of 4 for fruit at the weekend and thinks it improves both.

Inspiration
You do not need to go to Portugal to understand what this bowl carries — but it helps to have eaten soup from earthenware at a long stone table in the Minho, where the meal begins at one and nobody has mentioned leaving by four. The garland on this bowl — pink bloom, blue flower, green stem, turning the rim without ceremony — is the same one that has been running across Portuguese tables since before the recipe for the soup was written down. JJ brought this back from Caldas da Rainha and has used it every week since. It holds broth, fruit, and the particular contentment of a thing that was made with great taste.
Collectors Questions

Q: Are the cereal bowls just for cereal?

A: They're shaped for daily use well beyond cereal — yoghurt and fruit, a small salad, or a snack all work equally well. It's usually the piece that sees the most regular use of any in the collection.

Q: How should I wash them to protect the glaze with daily use?

A: A low-temperature or eco dishwasher cycle (≤30–40°C) with a mild detergent is fine occasionally, with heated drying switched off. Because cereal bowls tend to be washed most frequently of any piece, hand-washing is the habit most worth adopting here if you want the glaze to hold its colour for years.

Q: Can I buy the cereal bowl on its own, without the full dinner set?

A: Yes, each piece is available as a set of 4. Many collectors start with the cereal bowl for breakfast and build out to the dinner plate and side plate over time.

Q: Will the pattern or colour fade with the frequency of washing a breakfast bowl gets?

A: Hand-painted glaze ages gracefully rather than fading the way a printed pattern would. Gentle care — low heat, mild detergent, no heated drying — is what keeps it looking rich rather than any need to use it less.

Q: Is the cereal bowl a practical everyday gift, even as a single piece?

A: Very much so — a single well-made bowl is a genuinely useful, low-pressure gift, and it's often how people are introduced to a collection before deciding to collect the rest of it.
