Italian Made Marquetry Photo Frame

Inspiration

A stunning grey maquetry frame inspired by the work of Fausto Cialente (1898-1994), a compelling novelist and a fighter of fascism. Rebellion is exhausting and all-encompassing. To go along and get along can lead to a quiet life, but tolerating intolerance was unthinkable for Cialente. It led to a lifelong fight for what she believed in: decency and equality, at great risk to herself and her work.

"Natalia" was her debut novel. The depiction of an unhappy housewive's and her lesbian relationship received rave reviews, but Mussolini's men called for edits. Cialente's refusal led to the work being rejected, and for decades it wasn't printed in her homeland. But Cialente wouldn't yield. Throughout World War II she produced anti-fascist pamphlets and made daily broadcasts against the fascist government. She returned to her home, and in 1982 Natalia was finally reprinted in Italy. The path of justice is long and tiring, but the prospect of better days makes it worth it. A photo of someone you believe would stand up for others would be a fine fit for this frame.
